Claire Randall Fraser was transported in 1945 to 1743 Scotland via "Merlin's Stones," standing stones on the hill of Craigh na Dun.
She is English herself, though, just as a note for her accent, and fluent in French.
Physically speaking, her dress varies depending on what time period she enters the bar from.
She's pale skin and dark hair. Her eyes, as described by her husband, are, "Golden eyes; I've seen a pair like that once before--on a leopard."
(Some things I will gladly credit the author with having come up with; that description, though I love Diana Gabaldon's writing, is indeed one.)
